For students, nurses, and professionals — expert coaching with international certification support at 13 IMFS branches.
Germany is Europe’s largest economy and one of the world’s top destinations for higher education, skilled migration, and healthcare careers. With over 400 tuition-free or low-cost universities and a growing demand for international professionals, Germany is a destination that rewards the effort of learning the language.
Whether you’re a student targeting a German university, a nurse pursuing a Pflegeausbildung, or a professional seeking an Ausbildung or skilled worker visa — German language proficiency is your most critical qualification. IMFS has been guiding students to Germany since 1997.
🇩🇪 Why Germany in 2026: 400+ public universities with low or no tuition · Currently 30,000–40,000 nursing vacancies; projected shortage of up to 500,000 by 2030 · Skilled Worker Immigration Act (2023) makes it easier than ever for Indian professionals · Student blocked account €934/month · B2 German required for most regulated professions.

All IMFS German courses follow the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) — the international standard recognised by German universities, immigration authorities, and employers worldwide.
⏱️ How long does each level take? With IMFS structured coaching (weekday or weekend batches), most students complete each CEFR level in 10–12 weeks. A1 to B2 typically takes 8–12 months with consistent study of 10–15 hours per week. IMFS provides a personalised study plan at your first session based on your starting level and target date.
Nursing is a regulated profession in Germany. Before you can work as a qualified nurse, your Indian qualification must be officially recognised through the Anerkennung process. German language proficiency is central to every step of this journey — from document submission to your first day on the ward.
💡 Why German language is non-negotiable for nurses: Germany’s patient population communicates almost exclusively in German. As a nurse, you need to accurately understand symptoms, convey them to colleagues, follow medical instructions, and document patient care — all in German. Insufficient language proficiency risks wrong diagnosis, medication errors, and patient harm. German medical authorities require B2 precisely because of this patient safety standard.
Hold a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSc Nursing) or equivalent qualification from a recognised Indian institution. Your nursing training must be comparable in content and duration to the German 3-year Pflegefachfrau/Pflegefachmann programme. IMFS counsellors review your qualification early to identify any gaps.
Obtain a German language certificate at the required level. Most German states require B2 for full licence recognition; only Hessen currently accepts B1. IMFS recommends targeting B2 regardless — it unlocks better career opportunities and removes state-specific restrictions. Use a nursing-specific exam: telc Deutsch B1·B2 Pflege or Goethe-Test PRO Pflege.
Submit your educational certificates, transcripts, and language certification to the German Embassy for evaluation of equivalence to German standards. All documents must be officially translated into German by a sworn translator. IMFS supports document preparation and translation coordination.
Submit your qualifications to the nursing council of the German state (Bundesland) where you plan to work. They compare your training to the German standard and issue either full recognition or a Defizitbescheid (deficit notice) listing gaps to be addressed. This is called the Anerkennungsverfahren.
If a deficit notice is issued, you choose between an Anpassungslehrgang (adaptation course — supervised practical training in Germany) or a Kenntnispruefung (knowledge examination). Upon successful completion, you receive your Berufserlaubnis (temporary work permit) followed by full Approbation (licence to practise).
With recognition confirmed, apply to German hospitals and care facilities. After receiving a job offer, apply for the German work visa. IMFS supports the full journey — from hospital shortlisting and interview preparation to visa documentation, blocked account setup, and pre-departure orientation.
📋 Which German state should I choose? Language requirements vary by state. Currently only Hessen accepts B1 for nursing. All other states require B2. The recognition authority also varies — always confirm requirements with your target Bundesland before applying. IMFS counsellors guide you through state-specific rules.
Two German language exams are specifically designed for healthcare and nursing professionals. These use medical and clinical contexts throughout — making them far more relevant than general language exams for nurses.
Tests B1 and B2 in a single nursing-focused exam. All content is set in real nursing workplace scenarios. Widely accepted across Germany for nursing licence recognition.
Written: Multiple choice, matching tasks, 30-minute writing — either an admission report or biographical patient data based on a nursing report.
Oral (pair exam): Opinion & experience on a nursing topic, short presentation, discussion of a professional scenario with partner.
India test centre: Coimbatore
Healthcare-professional variant of the Goethe-Institut exam. Tests at B2 level. Approximately 3 hours. Adaptive digital format for listening and reading components.
Writing: Task 1 = admission report (patient); Task 2 = formal email in a nursing situation.
Oral (pair exam): Role play as patient or family member, case presentation, Q&A with examiner.
India test centres: Bangalore, Chennai, Kolkata, Mumbai, New Delhi & Pune
IMFS prepares students for internationally recognised German proficiency certifications at each CEFR level. The right exam depends on your purpose — university admission, visa, or professional licence recognition.
